Christmas
I've watched Delia cooking a turkey,
And seen how she makes a mince pie.
Jamie makes unpronounceable things
With ingredients I never buy.
Nigella cooks warm winter comforts,
And Gary does things I can spell.
I've watched and I've learned and I've listened,
So I hope Christmas lunch will go well.
Then on GMTV in the morning,
They're telling us what we should wear.
To dinners and parties and functions,
And do it with effortless flair.
And then there's the big glossy pictures,
And articles in magazines,
Showing us how to dress the tree,
In room matching colour schemes.
So now we're all ready to do it.
Christmas is not far away.
The presents are wrapped,
The cards have been sent,
We're counting down to the big day.
But I'd so like to know what Jesus,
Makes of this busy season.
Of all the jazz and razzmatazz,
Using His birth as the reason.
His purity beyond description;
His truth something man had not known.
He had no possessions or money,
Not a room or a house to call home.
He came to mankind as a present,
The most perfect gift from God above,
To show the greatest gift of all —
The simplicity of love.
