Overlapping Lives
Exhibition & Workshop
Members of the church Creativity Group took part in the 2004 Gillingham Festival on 9th and 10th of July.
They hosted an exhibition of differing styles portrayed in various media, including stained glass, painting and embroidery. Poetry also formed an integral part of the show.
The group believes that everyone has some creativity within them and so a workshop gave individuals the chance to explore a little of their own creativity and add it to a collage. This piece recorded something of the coming and going, the creative expression and the overlapping lives of the people of Gillingham.
The emphasis was very much on enjoying the process as much as the result and everyone was invited to come along and release the creative potential within, or simply view the fruits of other people's expression.
Many people took the opportunity and commented on how good it was just to have the time to sit and draw/doodle whilst chatting with people. Others were reminded of their past creativity and felt inspired toward doing more in the future.
Favourable remarks were left in the visitor's book with several commenting about the inspiring atmosphere and thought-provoking exhibits.
The group is now going to continue to look at what it means to be a creative Christian and how it can use this to help others in their worship and their daily lives.
